Child Custody

In most cases, the court will consider joint legal custody unless there is a compelling reason not to consider it. Joint legal custody gives each parent an equal say in decisions about the child’s upbringing and care. In determining physical custody, the court will look at a number of factors, including which parent might make a better custodian, each parent’s relationship with the child, the safety of the child and the child’s wishes.

Child Support

Child support is awarded based on specific guidelines that take into consideration the income levels of both parents. The number of overnights the child spends with each parent is also taken into consideration. If the child spends enough nights with the parent paying support, a reduction in the amount paid may be allowed.
